What We Are Looking For

Resilient Forestry is looking for an Analytical Ecologist to implement projects that leverage analytical workflows to answer ecological questions. This role is holistic in nature and includes management of personnel and data, geospatial data analysis, statistical modeling, literature review, report writing, and presentation of results. Responsibilities include implementation of geospatial analysis and reporting for client projects, developing, maintaining, and supporting software tools and data for internal company use, and conceptualizing and developing new methods for application of remotely sensed data sources to forest ecology and management projects.

 

Who We Are

Resilient Forestry was formed in 2018 in response to a regional need for ecologically-focused, science-driven consulting forestry. The firm is led by Sean Jeronimo, PhD and Miles LeFevre, MS each of whom has over a decade of experience in forest management, research, and analysis across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Resilient Forestry focuses on conservation-oriented forest management, collaborative and multi-stakeholder forests, forest management on public land, and forest ecosystem analysis. We are based in Seattle and work across the Pacific Northwest with small and large public and private landowners on a range of projects.

Resilient Forestry’s mission is to achieve the greatest outcome based on the best available science for our ecosystems and their surrounding communities. Our purpose is to clearly share our knowledge and expertise with forest managers to facilitate meeting functional ecosystem management objectives over the long term. We strive to translate the latest science into practical solutions that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of management actions.

Qualifications

  • Interested in forested ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest
  • Have a high level of facility with Python and R scripting languages
  • Experienced in designing and implementing moderately-sized coding projects, including writing clear, definitive software requirements, documentation, and testing
  • Experienced in working with Geographic Information Systems
  • Experienced in processing and analyzing geospatial data
  • Experienced in working with and managing large datasets
  • Have excellent organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a good understanding of parametric and non-parametric statistics
  • Knowledgeable of basic principles of computing and software architecture 
  • Experienced with Git revision control system

 

What You Will Do

  • Implement statistical and geospatial analysis and reporting for client projects
  • Develop, maintain, and support software tools for internal company use to import, organize, analyze, compare, and understand ecosystem data and metrics
  • Develop and maintain systems to assimilate, store, and disseminate large datasets within the company
  • Conceptualize and develop new methods for application of remotely sensed and other data sources to forest ecology and management projects
  • Make technical and analytical resources available to non-technical team members
